Pumped Thermal Energy Storage Technology (PTES): Review

چکیده

In recent years, there has been an increase in the use of renewable energy resources, which led to need for large-scale Energy Storage units electric grid. Currently, Compressed Air (CAES) and Pumped Hydro (PHES) are main commercially available storage technologies. However, these technologies restricted geographically can require fossil fuel streams heat air. Thus, is a develop novel that do not suffer from abovementioned drawbacks. Among in-development, Technologies, Thermal Electricity (PTES), or Heat Storage, stands out as most promising due its long cycle life, lack geographical limitations, absence streams, possibility integrating it with conventional fossil-fuel power plants. There have number PTES systems proposed using different thermodynamic cycles, including Brayton cycle, Rankine transcritical cycle. The purpose this paper provide comprehensive overview concepts, well common cycles they implement, indicating their individual strengths weaknesses. Furthermore, provides reference planning various types into systems.
